Philippians 4:11 (ESV)

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

Talk About It

Paul tells us he learned to be content—happy and thankful—no matter what was happening. Whether he had a lot or a little, Paul knew his joy didn’t depend on having more stuff. He trusted that God would give him what he needed most. It’s easy to feel like we need more toys, better things, or everything to go our way to be happy, but Paul shows us the real secret is trusting God to take care of us. Being content means being grateful for what we have and letting God’s joy fill our hearts. When we find our satisfaction in God, He gives us lasting joy—no matter our situation. Let’s practice finding joy in every moment, whether big or small, because God is always with us and He promises to provide all we need.

For Parents to Explain

Dear God, thank You for giving us everything we need. Help us to be content and joyful in every situation, trusting You always. Amen.

Family Activities

Contentment Hunt (Real-Life Application)

  1. Walk through your home together and look for things to be thankful for—even small things.
  2. Each person shares one thing they see or remember that brings them joy or comfort.
  3. Make a list or draw pictures of what you’re grateful for.
  4. Pray together, thanking God for His good gifts and asking Him to help you be content each day.

Joyful Jar (Creative Reflection)

  1. Find a jar or cup and label it 'Joyful Jar.'
  2. Throughout the week, each family member adds notes about things that made them feel content or joyful (big or small).
  3. At the end of the week, gather and read the notes together as a family.
  4. Thank God for each moment and talk about how contentment brings joy.

Family Prayer

Invite everyone to thank God for something they have and ask for help to be content, even when things are hard or different than you wish.
